Past President of WGO, is currently the Chair of WGO AI Task Force, Head of the Gastroenterology Department in Centro Hospitalar Universitário São Joao- and Full Professor in University of Porto, Portugal. He is the Director of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology WGO Training Center in Porto and was honored with the ACG International Leadership Award in Gastroenterology in 2015 and in 2022 nominated as Master of ACG after serving as president in the Portuguese Societies of Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Association of Liver Diseases along with the Portuguese Pancreas Club.
