Stephen Pereira

Prof Stephen Pereira is a consultant gastroenterologist with special interests in disease of the liver, pancreas and biliary tree, ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. He completed his undergraduate studies in medicine at University of NSW, Sydney, with postgraduate training in gastroenterology including therapeutic endoscopy mainly at Guy’s and King’s College Hospital, London, and advanced endoscopy training in Paris, Amsterdam and Indianapolis. He has been a consultant at University College London Hospitals since 2000 and at the Royal Free Hospital, London, since 2008 and was appointed Professor of Hepatology & Gastroenterology at UCL in 2015. The research interests of his group centre on the pathogenesis, early diagnosis and novel treatments for biliary tract and pancreatic cancer, as well as benign pancreaticobiliary diseases, with the activity of the research group linked closely with the clinical HPB service at both sites. He leads several multicentre clinical endoscopy trials and translational research studies at UCLH/RFH, including EUS-guided radiofrequency tumour ablation and an early pancreaticobiliary cancer biomarker discovery pipeline.
