Dr Sudipta Dhar Chowdhury

Dr. Sudipta Dhar Chowdhury is a gastroenterologist and academic, currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, India. With over a decade of experience in clinical practice, research, and teaching, he is widely recognized for his expertise in pancreatic disorders and gastrointestinal endoscopy.

He has a prolific academic record, with close to 100 peer-reviewed publications and over 900 citations, reflecting his significant contributions to the field of digestive diseases. His research interests span a range of topics, including the role of endothelial dysfunction in acute pancreatitis, the genetics of early-onset idiopathic recurrent acute and chronic pancreatitis, and the use of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy in acute pancreatitis. He is actively involved in multiple translational and clinical research projects, many of which are supported by competitive extramural grants.

Dr. Chowdhury also serves on several national and international guideline committees, contributing to the development of evidence-based clinical protocols. He currently holds the position of Secretary of the Indian Pancreas Club (IPC), a key national platform dedicated to pancreatic research and education.

As a committed educator and mentor, he has trained numerous gastroenterology fellows and played a pivotal role in expanding advanced endoscopy services. His ongoing work continues to bridge clinical care and scientific research, with the overarching goal of improving digestive health outcomes in India and beyond.
